James Brown a.k.a Mr. Vacuum Cleaner

Not to be confused with “The Godfather of Soul”, James Brown from the UK is a mini-celebrity in his own respect. Nicknamed Mr. Vacuum Cleaner, Brown’s vac obsession has caught the interest of media in Dubai, Australia and America.

He’s been collecting vacuums since he was eight years old. Having spent an estimated  $75,000 on vacuums over the years, he is now the proud owner of a Vacuum Museum. With 170 different vacuum models in his collection- the oldest a Hoover from 1926, it’s good to know that vacheads exist across the pond!

From Wet to Dry: a vacuum for all seasons

January 11th, 2012

Most people think wet/dry vacuums are “heavy duty” vacuums for heavy duty situations in areas like the basement or garage. With new designs, modern wet/dry vacuums have moved from heavy duty situations to everyday Vachead solutions!

But how can it fit in your home?

Wet/dry vacuums: from lawns to living rooms.

A wet/dry vac picks up all type of debris – dry, damp, even water!

It has three major compartments: the bucket a.k.a. the collection chamber (where debris is collected), the motor (drives the fan to draw air through the hose to the bucket), and the hose (to suck up debris).

Wet/dry vacuums come in different shapes and sizes. Choose one that best suits your household and cleaning needs:

  • A small model like this Shop-Vac is ideal for smaller households with sticky situations. It’s portable and light weight, and cleans wet or dry messes.
  • The Craftsman compact size is mid-sized, but easily stores without compromising performance. Equipped with wheels, it moves conveniently around the house.
  • A larger model like Ridgid is best for those big messes that need big help. It retains the most debris and has the best performance – wet or dry, indoors or out.

Features to look for:

  • Hose – look for wider hoses to reduce the chance of clogging
  • Crevice nozzle – a great attachment for those tight, hard to reach spots
  • Cord storage – most models have strategically placed cord storage that allow for no tangles
  • Leaf blower – an attachment on some larger models, great for cleaning up yard debris outside

The next time you have a complicated mess, head for your wet/dry vac!
